For the women

I am writing for the women who were once girls not knowing how to protect their worth,
I am writing for the women who saw their lovers depart as they felt unworthy of love,
I am writing for the women who've been taught to play small, to shrink into silence when ugly words were thrown at them,
I am writing for the women who desperately lean on men's shoulders in hopes for a "You are safe with me", how does a woman kiss a man long enough into forever, into safety, into stay with me?
I am writing for the women who show up with a smile after battling demons at night,
I am also writing for the women who do not know how to hide their pain with a smile, women who are tired of pretending that the weight of the world can be carried softly in their arms.
I am writing for the women who've been robbed from their own voices
I am writing for the women who kneel in the bathroom floor weeping for a God to end the anguish of an unfaithful husband,
I am writing for the women who convince the world with bravery  while they reek with insecurities,
I am writing for the women who struggle to belong to a society that encourages plastic faces and cartoon hearts,
I am writing for the women who mend their own scars with quivering fingers,
I am writing for the women who allow themselves to live, who consume the sky, hold the stars and sleep on clouds.
I am writing for the women who are loud, assertive and considered too much.
I am writing for my mother's mother and my daughter's daughters, for my ancestors and the generations to come. The world will make you forget who you are, so please always remember your softness.
